Food & Drink Apps

App Review – Can I eat it ?

Today’s App Review is Can I eat it ? by the OTHER media. Ever wonder what’s in your food? This is probably one of the best Apps to tell you just that. All you need to do is scan the barcode on the food type and the App will give you instant information about the salt, sugar and saturated fats. In addition to this the App indicates the presence of ingredients such as lactose or caffeine as well as the suitability for diet needs such as vega, diabetic, organic, fair trade.

The App features over 1000 different food products and also a large database of drinks. It lists products from the main food-chains including Aldi, Marks and Spencers and Tesco.

With all the additives in our food these days this explains things simply so anyone can tell the ingredients without having to skim through the lists of chemicals and percentages on a pack. Unfortunately the App does not yet indicate the presence of horse meat in products but who knows what future updates may bring.

The App costs €1.99 and can be downloaded from HERE.

App Review – Jamie’s Recipes

Today’s App review is Jamie’s Recipes by Zolmo

This App is based on recipes by Jamie Oliver  is very well designed and I am not that fantastic a chef so it’s perfect for me the way it simplifies itself. The free version comes with plenty of recipes. However, there are quite a lot of recipe unlocks which cost €1.99 each and a total of

Good for free but a lot of in-app purchases for 1.79each and a total of €18.80 to unlock everything which is quite expensive but it depends on what you are locking for within the App. Purchases include 10 minute meals, 20 minute meals, fast-food etc.

I find the App design very user-friendly so did buy a few purchases and have successfully managed a few of the recipes. As cooking Apps go I do like this App and also like how ingredients listed are ones I can easily source unlike those mentioned in some Apps.

To get the App you can download it from HERE

App Review – Soup

Today’s App Review is Soup by Stuart Petty.

It’s that time of year again when sandwiches just don’t do for lunch and you need something to warm you up. Soup is just the App you need. It has a large collection of different soups ranging from the traditional vegetable soup to unusual concoctions. The App is beautifully laid out with pictures and clear instructions and images.

So it is time to say goodbye to the boring old instant soups and try out these recipes.

The App can be downloaded from here.

App Review – 15 min meals

Today’s App Review is 15 min meals by Syed Assad.

I never really downloaded many cooking or recipe Apps but this App was featurered one day and happened to be free so I said I would give it a go.

It has a wide range of recipes for sandwiches to stir fries and the cooking steps are laid out clearly.

There are a few drawbacks to the App. The first being the fact that the name suggests these meals take you 15 minutes. Upon downloading you will discover that the majority of recipes indicate that the time allowed should be 30+ minutes

Another downside is the fact that many of the ingredients are ones that I would never have heard of or know where to source.

All that being said the App is free so why not download it here.
