App Review – Sounds: The pronunciation App

Today’s App Review is Sounds by Macmilan Publishers. As an ESOL teacher I find that some students come in who have pretty good written skills but unfortunately their pronunciations sometimes need a lot of work. In particular I find them to have issues with words ending in ‘ed’ and ending in ‘ing’. This App is the perfect resource for students.

You can look up words for it to pronunciate and practice your own pronunciation and reading skills. All you have to do is tap on a letter  The App will even record you voice so it can compare your pronunciation to the in-app pronunciation. The App is fully interactive and you can test your progress through quizzes. An extra bonus for teachers is that it comes with three free lesson plans which are designed to work around using the App. There are also some practice learning activities where users can listen, read and write. The App also contains top tips for teachers and studentts.

The App does cost €5.49 but is an invaluable resource to any english language teacher. To get the App you can download it from HERE
